 Jeff Turner - 3:30 Pacer

Jeff has completed five marathons, including Boston in 2008.   His personal best is 3:07. Having completed the Kansas City Marathon in 2006, he is excited about running it again with the specific goal of helping others run under 3:30. Jeff is a Commercial Lender with Bank Midwest in downtown KC and a Brookside resident.  With the marathon course covering much of his training ground and work commute, you can be sure he’ll be familiar with the route.

Joshua Sales - 3:40 Pacer

This is Josh’s second year as a pacer and he has been a runner for over 20 years. Josh has completed 10 marathons and the Brew to Brew 44 Mile Race as a solo runner. His marathon PR is 3:21. Josh began his marathon career (after running shorter distances in high school and college) with Team in Training three years ago. While he still runsthe occasional 5K or 10K, he enjoys the challenge of the marathon distance and how you really learn your strengths (and weaknesses) over the distance.

Margo Laville -3:50 Co-Pacer

It's great to be a pacer for the second time at KC Marathon for this time goal!  When pacing the 2007 KC Marathon I finished right at 3:49.  In my 17 years of running, I have completed 6 marathons in the last five years including Boston.  My PR's are 1:33 for the half marathon and 3:26 for the marathon.

Susie Fagan - 3:50 Co-Pacer

As a first-time pacer, Susie is looking forward to helping Margo encourage runners in the 3:50 group up and over the hills. And as a mom of two, Susie appreciates the mental outlet that running provides. She qualified for the Boston Marathon in 2007 at Columbus, Ohio, with a PR of 3:26, thanks in large part to her training friends in the Runner’s Edge.

 Jim Still - 4:00 Co-Pacer

Jim has finished 7 marathons over the last 4 years including the Kansas City Marathon twice.  He currently trains with the Runner's Edge running group in Kansas City.  Jim also ran cross country in college and high school and competed in track in high school as well.

Al Mauro - 4:00 Co-Pacer

Al is returning for his 2nd year as a Kansas City Marathon Pacer, and his fourth time running the new KC Marathon course.  He has paced his wife to several marathon and half marathon PR’s and has learned that good pacing is 50% keeping the right speed at the right time and 50% amusing, cheering, pushing, carrying, dousing, encouraging and, if necessary, lying to get you across the line.  He and his co-pacer will keep your mind off your pain.  His marathon PR was just enough under 3:20 to get him to Boston this year.

Roger Samuel - 4:10 Co-Pacer

Roger is returning as a co-pacer for the 4:10 pace group, having had so much fun in 2007.  He has completed 11 marathons in addition to his third Boston this year.  Last November, he traveled with a contingent of Runner's Edge participants to Tulsa, where he achieved his marathon PR in a time of 3:17.  Roger's pace group strategy will be to take walk breaks through each aid station.

Kristen Comment – 4:10 Co-Pacer

Kristen has been a longtime runner, but began running marathons & half-marathons four years ago after becoming inspired as a spectator at the Boston Marathon. Since then, she has completed 8 marathons, with a personal best of 3:25. The best part about this distance, she ays, is pushing yourself beyond a point you didn't think you could go. She looks forward to helping others achieve their time goal in the Kansas City Marathon, and hopefully have some fun in the process! Kristen lives in the Plaza area and works in the financial industry.

Miriam Cleary - 4:20 Co-Pacer

Miriam is a first-time marathon pacer this year.  She has completed five marathons, with a personal best of 3:43 at Chicago 2006.  She ran her first marathon with Team in Training in June 2005 and has continued to run with Runner's Edge ever since.  As a native Kansas Citian, she is looking forward to completing her hometown race and helping others achieve their marathon goals.

Bob Bundschuh - 4:20 Co-Pacer

Bob started running eight years ago at age 30 to get in shape. He ran Chicago as his 1st marathon in 1999 and did everything wrong: went out too fast, wore new shoes, etc. Since then he’s run 18 marathons including one on all Seven Continents. In that time, Bob has become a much smarter runner, had a lot of fun and even gotten a little faster. His philosophy towards marathons is to have fun and enjoy, “I’m not going to win one; I’m not even worrying about winning one – so I might as well have fun along the way!”  In July of 2008 Bob plans to run The Great Tibetan Marathon with a starting altitude of over 13,500 feet.  He looks forward to coming back down to a sane elevation and a cold beer in Kansas City.

Andrea Schloegel – 4:40 Co-Pacer

Andrea will be pacing the Kansas City Marathon for second time this year.  She has run 7 marathons in the past and is currently a pace group leader for the local Kansas City running club, The Runner’s Edge. Her marathon PR is a 4:05 at the Kansas City Marathon. Andrea enjoys running for fitness and fun. She looks forward to helping those with a goal of 4:40 make it to the line within their goal time and have a little fun along the way! You will run right by Andrea’s house while on the marathon course and will run through her lively friends and family near the halfway point aid station.

Stephanie Letourneau 4:40 Co-Pacer

Running is a great sport! There is a pace and distance for everyone. Stephanie’s favorite distance is the marathon. She has completed 15 marathons in 13 states including the 2005 Inaugural Waddell and Reed Kansas City Marathon and 2006 Chicago Marathon (PR 3:53:44). This is Stephanie’s 3rd time pacing the marathon distance. She enjoys getting to know fellow runners in the pace group and providing encouragement along the way. Stephanie believes in even effort pacing. This is especially important with the Kansas City Marathon’s hilly terrain. She will start off about a minute slower than goal pace for the first couple of miles for a nice warm-up, walk through the water stops to ensure good hydration, and plan walk breaks to briefly rest the running muscles and finish strong at 4:40!

Carol Gregg - 4:50 Pacer

Carol was a first time marathon pacer at last year's KC Marathon.  She had such a great experience that she decided to do it again.Carol has run a total of 10 marathons; 9 in different states.  Her PR came in Austin, TX with a time of 4:22.  If you like to run in peace and quiet, she is not the pacer for you.  She will engage you and others around you in conversation and will keep your spirit alive, even when you think you are too tired. So be prepared for the time to fly by and to have a great time!

Kirk Barnhart - 5:00 Pacer

If you are looking to complete your very first marathon or if you want to have fun while running 26.2 miles, then you must sign up for the 5:00 pace group. Kirk has helped many first-timers and seasoned runners reach the finish line and loves seeing others experience the overwhelming joy of completing their first marathon. He also likes to have fun while running his marathons. Once, he dressed up as Elvis (in full costume) and ran the entire Las Vegas marathon. With 15 marathons (including a marathon PR of 4:14) under his running shoes along with experience leading a previous KC Marathon pace group and currently leading the 10:20 pace group for The Runners Edge, Kirk will most definitely help you achieve your goal of running the Kansas City marathon.

Mari Bashor – 5:10 Pacer

Mari has been with Runner's Edge for the last 8 years and is currently a pace group leader. She has run 12 marathons and 3 ultras including Brew to Brew Solo (44 miles) and The Heartland 50. Mari is really looking forward to serving the 5:20 pace leader and helping others achieve their goals.

Renea Kanies - 5:20 Pacer

My two favorite hobbies are running and gardening.  I have completed 4 marathons, 2 half marathons and numerous 5K's and 10K's.  I train with The Runner's Edge which has taken my running to a new level of enjoyment. My first goal for every race is to have a positive experience.  I never want to lose sight of why I run and that is to have a good time and stay healthy. The 5:30 pace group can look forward to a great experience filled with encouragement and great conversation.  We will cross the finish line with a smile knowing we have accomplished something very special.

Carl Pfaff - 5:30 Pacer

This is my first year as a pacer for the KC Marathon. I look forward to assisting others as they achieve their personal marathon goals. I have completed 48 marathons and two 50K Ultra-Marathons in the course of 20 years. Employing energy and enthusiasm, my pace group will follow a run/walk strategy to finish the KC Marathon in 5:30.

Cynthia Stapp - 5:40 Pacer

Cynthia has been a pace group leader for Runner's Edge for almost two years. Following the Runner's Edge strategy, she provides a warm-up pace 30 seconds to a minute slower than goal pace for the first couple of miles, walking for a minute after each aid station, and then settles in to a pace appropriate for the topography and weather. Cynthia has successfully completed eight marathons (which includes serving as a pacer for KC in 2007) and four half marathons. She really enjoys encouraging others to do what they've never done before -- to run farther, to run faster or just to run!
